A plastic bin rental works like this: you book a package sized to your home, the company delivers stackable plastic totes and a dolly to your door before move day, you pack them, the bins travel with you to the new place, and the company collects the empties from your new address afterward. What actually shows up
Every ToteMove package includes the totes, a dolly (two on the 4- and 5-bedroom packages), delivery to your current address, and pickup from your new one. Flat rate, no per-kilometre charge, no deposit.

What the bins are
24 × 20 × 12 inches. Gray high-density polyethylene, the same family of plastic used in industrial shipping containers. Each tote holds up to 60 lbs. The lid is attached and snaps flat.
The spec that actually matters on move day is the stack. You can put 3–4 loaded totes on top of each other in a truck and the bottom one holds its shape. A cardboard box rated "medium" tops out around 30–40 lbs in good conditions, and a damp truck floor in October is not good conditions.
Ours are rated for 400+ full-load cycles and get inspected before every delivery. Any cracking or lid damage and the tote comes out of rotation. Which does mean the bin arriving at your house has already moved other people's kitchens. That's the whole idea: one container doing 400 moves instead of 400 boxes doing one each.
What the 14 days are really for
The window isn't generous for the sake of being generous. It's sized around how people actually move. Packing happens in evenings after work, not in one heroic weekend. Unpacking happens even slower, because the kitchen gets done on night one and the spare room boxes sit there until you need something out of them.

Where bin rental is available
Delivery-based bin rental is thinner on the ground than you'd expect outside Toronto proper. ToteMove covers 10 towns across the GTA West corridor:

Two things that trip people up
Booking too late
Weekend dates and the last few days of the month go first, because that's when leases turn over and closings land. Reserving 1–2 weeks out is comfortable. Calling on the Wednesday before a Saturday month-end move is a gamble, and not one I'd take.
Undersizing the package
People size their rental by counting rooms. Then they discover the pantry, the bathroom cabinets, the garage shelf, the linen closet, and the books. Boxes always run out at the bad end of the process, usually around 9pm the night before.
Is renting cheaper than buying cardboard?
Usually, yes, and the reason isn't the boxes. It's everything around them. Cardboard means tape, a dolly rental, the trips to buy and the trip to dispose. A 2-bedroom move in cardboard typically lands around $280 once all of that is counted. The same move in ToteMove bins is $189 with the dolly, delivery, and pickup already in it.
The honest exception: if you've still got good boxes in the basement from your last move, use them. Rental makes sense when you're starting from nothing, which is most people. Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
Not necessarily. We coordinate by text or call beforehand, and plenty of customers just leave instructions for a safe spot: garage, covered porch, side door. Delivery and pickup run 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
How long do I get to keep the bins?
Fourteen days. They arrive 7 days before your move date and get collected from your new address about 7 days after, so you have a full week on each side.
What if my closing date moves?
Happens constantly. Let us know as soon as you have the new date and we'll rework delivery and pickup around it. Booking 1–2 weeks ahead gives us more room to reschedule, since weekend and end-of-month slots are the first to fill.
How much weight does one tote hold?
Up to 60 lbs. They're 24 × 20 × 12 inches in heavy-duty HDPE, and they stack 3–4 high loaded without the bottom one giving out. A medium cardboard box is typically good for 30–40 lbs, less once it picks up any moisture.
Do I have to break anything down or return them myself?
No. That's the part rental removes. You don't assemble anything on the way in and you don't flatten, bundle, or drive anything to a depot on the way out. We pick the totes up from your new address.
Is this the same thing as a moving tote or a plastic moving box?
